I love it when you see the cover of a book and your first thought is, "WOW That is gorgeous!" The cover of a book is very important, in fact, it is the reason why some people read the novel in the first place.
This past summer, when I was traveling to North Carolina with my grandparents, I couldn't decide which of my many books to read next. I put them all into a nice, neat stack and handed them to my grandmother and asked her to choose my next read for me. Now, if she had done this for me, naturally I would have read through each synopsis and decided which one looked most interesting. Nope, not my grandmother. She took one look at the front of each book and goes- "You should read this one!" I replied, "but you don't even know what it's about." And you know what she said? "Who cares? I like this cover the best."
So, long story short, the cover has a lot to do with how successful a book is- what is the first book you look at in the bookstore? The one with the plain brown cover or one like the one shown below?

For my Saturday's Shelf Candy I have decided to highlight Maria V. Snyder's "Touch of Power".
I just love the colors that are used in the cover and the blast of light that is coming from her fingers. I think that this cover is just beautiful!

This book was released on December 20, 2011

  1. I agree. A good cover is often a reason that the book is picked up to find the package of a great story within.
Touch of Power is an exceptional cover. I have not had the opportunity to see this one in person, just on the internet, but I am looking forward to taking a closer look. Thank you for sharing it.

  3. Hey, there! Thanks for commenting on my Shelf Candy post, and I'm so glad you're joining this hop! It's a FABULOUS one!

GREAT post! I really enjoyed the anecdote about your grandma. She sounds like an awesome lady! And she's SO right, too. In spite of the old saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover", that's excactly what we bookworms do! We walk into a bookstore, or go to Amazon/Barnes & Noble, and are immediately pulled in by the most beautiful book cover we come across!

I love this cover myself. It's posted in my blog's sidebar, as you know.

    Have a TERRIFIC weekend!! : )
