"Saving June" is a heart wrenching story about a 16 year old
girl trying to get through the aftermath of her sister’s suicide. She has
decided to road trip across country to California to spread her sister’s ashes
in the Pacific Ocean with her best friend, Laney, and a secretive boy that her
sister knew.
This book is about Harper coming to terms with her sister’s
death and trying to figure out how to live her life. She experiences many new
things on her road trip which help her come to the realization that life needs
to be lived to its fullest. There is no reason to hold back when it is so
short. I loved the friendships that Harper has and how she is a very real
character. I could see this sixteen year old girl who was confused, mad and
resentful of her family. It took me a little while to get into the book, but
once I hit around page 100, I was hooked. Hannah Harrington has created a
believable story of betrayal and loss that leaves you speechless.
