Review: Half Black Soul
The “Half Black Soul” is packed with action and revelations. I love how fierce and loyal both Alexa and Nelly are to each other. They would both give their lives to save those they love. Alexa has always been strong, and able to take care of herself, but in this book, Nelly really comes into her own person. She begins to understand her true powers and what lengths she will go to keep her sister safe. I've really grown to respect Nelly as a character in this book, as she is no longer a helpless little girl relying on her sister to save her. She begins fighting back and trying to do her part in ridding Two Rivers of the evil that is lurking in the shadows. This book is jam packed with action and the ending has a major twist that leaves you begging for more.

The Keeper's Curse Blog Tour
Review and Author Spotlight
Welcome to my stop on The Keeper’s Curse Blog Tour, hosted by Sel of Bookcase to Heaven. Below you will read about this awesome story, see my review, learn about the author, Diana Harrison, and even get a chance to win an electronic copy of "The Keeper's Curse". So, here it goes :-)
My thoughts:
I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I
loved the setting and descriptions of Methelwood and I loved how quickly the
book moved. “The Keeper’s Curse” is one of those books where you sit down for
an hour to read and then you look up 5 hours later not realizing how much time
has passed. There was no downtime and everything moved at a quick pace leading
up to the finale of the book. My favorite thing about the book was the fact
that I wanted to be in the world with these characters. It is a world where
everyone has the power to control magic and use “palewraiths” to perform it
(using dead souls to defend yourself… how cool is that?). It was also
interesting reading about Emmy trying to figure out what was going on with the
voice she kept hearing in her head, and all of the situations she had to go through
to learn a secret that had been kept from her since she was a young girl.
I really enjoyed the story line of “The Keeper’s Curse” and
the whole concept of the novel. I thought it was awesome how everyone within
the story was connected in one way or another.
Also, I enjoyed reading as the individual people came together to create
a tightknit group of friends. There were times (although very few) where I felt
the dialogue was a little cheesy, but overall I really enjoyed the story. There
were some scenes that involved Emmy and her classmates having competitions
where the last one standing wins. I loved those parts because you were able to
see Emmy grow into her abilities and become more comfortable with herself, her
friends, and her surroundings. I also enjoyed the different dynamics of Emmy
and her friends, especially between Emmy, Cyrus, and Breckin.
“The Keeper’s Curse” has a little bit of everything that
will keep anyone interested: mystery, romance, action, suspense, and magic all
in one nice, neat, little package.

Review: Take a Bow
This story is told from four points of view: Emme, Sophie,
Ethan and Carter. Going into the book I was wary of this because I didn’t think
the book would be easy to follow. Elizabeth Eulberg has done an amazing job
weaving together this story. She has flawlessly executed the shift of view from
person to person in a way that leaves no holes. I was able to follow along
pretty easily and felt that nothing got lost in the shuffle. This story was
short and sweet. I personally loved it. I was able to connect to the
characters, feel their pain and heartache while also wanting to punch one of
the characters along the way. This book shows what some people will do to scrape
their way to the top and lets you reflect on your own friendships.
This story was one that I was racing to finish and I
couldn’t put it down! It’s one of those books where you fall in love with the
characters and aren’t ready to let them go at the end of the story… or at least
most of them… This story was a breath of fresh air and I, personally, would
love to read more about these characters.

Review: Luminaire
I was very excited to have the opportunity to read and review the second book in the Florence Waverly Series, “Luminaire” and I was blown away! The world that the author has created is rich, colorful, and exciting, and has been described so well that you feel as if you are underwater with the characters. I was so engrossed in this novel that I was able to read it in about four hours and was lost in the world of Niemela the entire time.
This book starts with Florence trying to figure out the craziness that is her life underwater as the only human stuck in a world full of Mer folk. She is given dreams that force her into competing in a dangerous tournament where the only winners are the survivors.
I have grown to love this series and cannot wait to see what unfolds for Florence, her friends, and the entire city of Niemela in the third book. Make sure to read the first book in this series, it’s one you don’t want to miss!

"The captain watched the others leave the
chamber. He shook his head. “You shouldn’t have
compromised with Provonox. The Council issupposed to serve a king, not the other way around.
You cannot let them overexert their power.”
“I do not intend to,” said Rolan. “But Provonox
is right.” He looked through the open doorway, out
into the Homestead. “We need more Niemelans to
defend our home from the dangers beyond.”
“But what about the dangers within?” said
Dorsimer.
Rolan didn’t reply, and the question hung in the
water…"

OPAL Trailer Reveal!
No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Review: Lies that Bind (Liar Society #2)
The Liar Society, The Lies That Bind, is an exciting mystery that centers around two secret societies that rule a private high school. Kate has been trying to take down the Brotherhood and Sisterhood ever since their involvement led to the death of her best friend, Grace. She is trying to get revenge for what happened to Grace and make sure it never happens to anyone else. So when a member of the Sisterhood goes missing and horrible text messages with her picture are sent around school, she has no choice but to get involved to bring the kidnappers to justice.
Pemberly Brown Academy is ruled by the societies that have been at war for years and are trying to bring each other down. Kate gets involved in some serious situations while trying to figure out who took one of the most popular girls in school. I loved how this book combines mystery with a very interesting plot about warring societies. You are enthralled from the first page until the very end. I loved how the clues lead you one way only to lead to a dead end. You were constantly guessing what happened and who was to blame only to have your mind changed 12 pages later. What I also enjoyed was the fact that you were able to read the second book in this series without having read the first. I haven’t had a chance to read the first book yet, but I was able to follow along and not be lost as to what the characters were talking about. There was enough back story to fill in the reader without over doing it on the recap of the previous story. I can’t wait to go back and read the first Liar Society book and I definitely am impatiently awaiting the release of the chapter of Kate’s story.
Overall, I loved this story It’s been a while since I’ve read a mystery novel and this book helped me to remember why I was obsessed with them when I was younger. I think this is a great book for students in intermediate school and up and, if given a chance, I think that adults would really enjoy it as well.
